New public dock for recreational boats in Ústí nad Labem – Brná
15. 2. 2023New public dock for recreational boats in Ústí nad Labem – Brná
Introduction: Construction of public dock for small vessels in Brná, Ústí nad Labem
The construction of a public dock for small vessels has begun in Brná, Ústí nad Labem. Tourists can dock their boats for up to 48 hours for free and access water and electricity. This initiative is part of a wider programme for constructing public marinas to support recreational boating on waterways. The Czech Republic’s Waterways Directorate has been implementing this programme for some time now.
Features and accessibility of the public dock
To ensure accessibility, a steel footbridge will connect the pier to the shore, allowing wheelchair access. Additionally, the wharf’s smooth operation will be supported by three high-water davits for the moving pier line at the Střekov weir. As interest in recreational boating grows annually, this new initiative will facilitate this popular activity.

„In the Ústí nad Labem region, we have already completed the wharf in Děčín this year, and we have also started construction of new wharves in Štětí, Čelákovice and Roudnice nad Labem. This year the modernisation of the wharf in Litoměřice will be completed. We will gradually bring the conditions on the Elbe River closer to popular waterways for tourism, such as the Bata Canal and the Vltava River,“ he added.
The pier in Brna is located in the Střekov weir. The fluctuation of the water level is solved by high-water dikes for moving the pier. In the event of high waters, the pier is structurally adapted so that it can be safely left in place and rise along the dalbes up to the level of the highest flood. It has hinged booms, removable gangway railings and other structural features so that it does not form an obstruction to the flowing water.
„We are currently fine-tuning the technical documentation, which needs to be adapted to the identified geology of the river bed, and preparing the site. This wharf differs from the ones we are working on in Roudnice and Štětí in that it is a so-called floating pier,“ says Jan Zeman, project manager from Division 6 of Metrostav a.s.
The construction at the Loděnice cycling camp will temporarily restrict traffic on the adjacent cycle path. In the case of work on the shore, which is carried out mainly in winter, the route will be detoured.
The construction costs of CZK 24 million will be covered by the road. CZK, excluding VAT, is financed by the State Fund for Transport Infrastructure. The construction is being carried out by Metrostav a.s.
