14. 2. 2023Orlik lowering- Information on the reservoir in August 2022
Start of Construction for Orlik Hydroelectric Power Station in August 2022
The State Enterprise Vltava River Basin informs that the planned lowering of the water level in the Orlík reservoir below 339.00 m above sea level due to the construction of the „Orlík hydroelectric power station – protection of the hydroelectric power station against the effects of high waters“ will start on 1 August 2022.
Impact on Vessel Passage and Transport during Orlik Lowering
Exceeding the limiting level of 347.60 m above sea level will halt the passage of vessels through the Kořensko lock, which is expected to happen in the first week of August 2022. When the minimum operating level of 342.50 m above sea level is surpassed, the transport of vessels by ship elevator at the Orlik waterworks will be interrupted. Then this is anticipated to occur around mid-August.
Orlik Lowering And Maintaining Reduced Reservoir Level until March 2023
Of particular note is the fact that Orlik is maintaining a reduced reservoir level until the end of March 2023.
Monitoring Water Level in Orlik Reservoir during Lowered Levels
In connection with this restriction, the Vltava River Basin State Enterprise is asking the public. The general swimming public, recreationalists and other users with a connection to the level in the Orlík . So that they conscientiously and with sufficient regularity monitor the current level. At the same time, we ask all users to adjust their activities on the Orlík reservoir. And the relevant section of the Vltava Waterway to the expected level movement from August 2022 to March 2023.
Adjustments to Lowering Schedule due to Hydrological Conditions
In the event of exceptional hydrological conditions – drought, flood – this lowering schedule is likely to be adjusted in the future.
